Pukehina Beach is a popular beach that attracts swimmers, surfers and fishermen from throughout the local Bay of Plenty area, and visitors to the area. First and foremost, Pukehina Surf Rescue exists to protect beachgoers from harm. 

Patrol Hours

Voluntary Patrol

Sundays 10am - 4:30pm
15th Nov 2020 - 29th Nov 2020

Weekends 10am - 4.30pm                        Saturday 5th Dec 2020 - Sunday 28th Feb 2021

Regional Patrol

Weekdays 10am - 6:00pm
28th Dec 2020 - 29th Jan 2021

Remember to always swim between the patrol flags.

When to contact a Lifeguard

You should contact a Lifeguard when:

  • Someone appears to be struggling in the water
  • Someone is missing on the beach / in the water
  • There is a potential hazard on the beach (e.g. glass) 
  • A shark is spotted

We can retrieve stuck kontikis along Pukehina Beach. To do this for you, we ask for a $100 donation towards our equipment.
